Definitely normal. And it's not hard to lose traction downhill due to gravity, momentum and surface conditions.
Thank you, Mark, that was good information, and I will make sure that I am always in low range 4WD when going down my driveway and quit worrying about what caused the problem. It was a scarry event.

When you apply the brake on a 1025R it engages the diff lock so both wheels get braking force. When in 4WD that braking force is applied to the front axle (but only 1 wheel dues to the open diff axle) to provide 3 wheel braking force.

If using the brake slowed/stopped the tractor I'd say your diff lock is working as designed.

Emailed Pape' yesterday. Got a call today scheduling their visit tomorrow. Fortunately, the waiting has been the hardest part.

Hadn't been following this thread, but just got a call from my dealer (James River Equipment, Woodstock, Va) about the recall. They're coming out to the house on 9/4.

Done and done. I even mentioned "hearing online" about people having issues with their differential locked up after the swap. He agreed that would be an easy thing to do with the linkages and his first test would be to drive around at full steering lock and make sure the wheels were still turning as expected. BTW, with a MMM his method was to leave the deck in place and remove the floor board to replace the part. I'll give it a closer look this weekend.

I received a call from my dealer today. They will replace my bellcrank on October 2nd. They have been good to deal with. The salesman from whom I purchased my 2025R called right after the recall was announced and then again about 6 months later to let me know that they had not forgotten me and were working from oldest tractors to newest. As I rarely use the brake for anything other than parking when I do not want the tractor to roll I have not been worried...no visible cracks in the bellcrank...will know more in a few weeks.
