ABI TR3-e just got it

It arrived yesterday and I'm figuring out how to use it. It is supposed to do the job of a box blade, land plane, and rake. I sold my box blade and land plane and drag harrow, so this TR3 better work! I'm sure it's not as good as a box blade for moving a lot of material, but the FEL can do that and I'm pretty much done moving a lot of material.

As a smoother and leveller, the TR3 is superior. Only 15 minutes of work on gravel driveways showed me the benefits of the floating levelling blade with tires to control the depth. The land plane was far better than the box blade for that job, but the TR3 beats both for speed and surface finish.
Yes, the TR3 is expensive, but I got good use of the other implements and sold them to help pay for the
TR3. The TR3 will maintain what I have and it takes less room than the 3 items it replaced, so that's a benefit. I like to store all my stuff indoors, so that was one of my criteria for the TR3 vs the stuff I sold.

It's a good product, but has it's limitations.
Great tool for horse stables and arena grading.
I was looking at this at one point, but didn't like the inability to box blade material in volume to the traditional BB and back drag in reverse similar to the traditional LP
The drag rake is brilliant though, and I believe is a patent of theirs.
It does serve a good purpose in the market based on the user requirements though! Kudos on the innovation.... just not for me.

The pricing seems pretty elusive, you have to provide them contact information to get a quote, which I personally have reservations about. But they are also talking about $111 per month for 48 months, which is $5,000.......for the TR3 Rake and $79 per month for the TR3 subcompact version, which works out to approx $4,000....and those do include interest. What about just a cash purchase price?

I could use one of those for maintaining our 1,100'+ long crushed aggregate road, but so far, I have kept it maintained with the Box blade........and dragging the bottom of the FEL bucket. Can someone who owns one give us a ball park of the cost of a 5' version of the SCUT model or whatever size works best on the SCUT?

Thanks.............

The picture shows the rake as a silver color - is it aluminum?? That would wear so fast!

Its a 3/4" Hardox, AR or Hardened Material similar to a cutting edge in replaceable sections. Definitely not aluminum. Don't let the paint or powder coat trick you lol

Good video on the technical Jar-gen

I own the 7.5’ Command. I’m happy with it.
this was me trying to figure out how to use it.

After learning it better, I took it out for commercial tractor work

If one tool can take the place of 2 or 3 others how expensive is it really.

I am obviously interested in this piece. My reservation is that in my experience, Swiss army knives can do a lot of things - just not good at any of them

Now that's a very good call - the TR3e isn't as good as a box blade in some instances (moving massive amounts of material), but after more use, I'm finding the TR3e to be superior as a leveller, grader, smoother when used on dirt or gravel roadways. It did a terrific job in less time for getting rid of washboard and pot holes. And I didn't need to change from a box blade to a land plane to get the surface I wanted.

Does it leave lines in the driveway after working it?

Not unless you have the rake set too deeply. That's an easy adjustment.

I was wondering about that because the videos I watched of it being used it left lines in the stone drives.

The lines go away as vehicles drive on the gravel. Or just use less rake pressure. The rake is wider than the other parts of the implement. The rake "erases" the wheel tracks as the rake spreads gravel evenly across the path you just drove with the tractor. The implement wheels can be adjusted up, down and individually with a simple pull of a pin to allow the implement to be higher on one side for crowning a road.

I received my 7.5' TR-3 Rake about a month ago. I did a quick setup onto our JD 4066R tractor. Weather and other priorities have limited my use to about 2 hours total. I haven't even tried the scarifers or profile blades yet!

That said, I'm impressed! Simply dragging the TR-3 around our crushed stone driveway that circles the house, the results were really good and EASY to obtain. It pulled up weeds, filled low spots...and left a nice finish. I expect that snowblower will throw less stone this winter! :)

The 6ft Model TR3e Cost me $3500 (2020) to my door, was interesting for the first few mins of use but easy to understand and work out. i posted Videos on YT since No One had done so at the time. I have since posted more. I now have the 5.5' TR3 model and will be doing a comparison soon once it warms up. i sorta need another person with a similar tractor in order to do so as well as a nice ****ed up Driveway to work on. I used my TR3e so much that i dont need to use it as often on the driveway. My Frustration with the TR3e is that Heavy Vegetation will clog the scarifier up to the point where it locks up the wheel thats closest to it. At this point the material build up is enough to keep the TR3e scarifier from engaging the ground. To be completely honest i was in a old field that that hadnt been plowed so it was pulling everything that had been growing for 2yrs.
To sum it up, the TR3e is designed 1st and foremost with Arena grading in mind. Doing driveway work is a secondary move and it is more than capable of handling that. The Smallest model is made lite enough for the smallest Subcompact tractor to handle and maybe even the small John Deere heavy duty Lawnmower type tractors (x500/x700) they produce. Its pretty lite around 500+ lbs. The 5.5' TR3 is pretty solid and i see where it outmuscles the E model. With both of them i see where they talk about the Hydraulic Top Link coming into play. Even with the E model, the Hyd Top Link is worth it and makes life that much easier! I bought my Top-Link from Agri Supply but i suggest getting 1 with the Check valves!
Like i said in my videos, the TR3e is a GREAT all around tool. It will never beat each comparable tool in a heads up use for that single tools purpose but the combination of the TR3e doing or being able to do all things as a Jack of All Trades, thats where it shines.
The TR3 was $5K to the door for the 5.5' model but i added the 24" Finish Rake Extension ($79) It really is built Tank Tough and weighs more than the TR3e.

I have the TR3-E 6ft with the profile blade. I've not had any issues using it with my 1025r. It is pushing the limits of weight back there, you won't be able to lift it in idle. Goose the throttle, and it picks up fine. We use ours to groom the arena, and harrow our pastures. I highly recommend it.

Prices must have changed a lot recently. Based on videos, and after reading this thread, I contacted ABI to get a quote. The TR3e prices seem significantly higher than 6 months ago. (Probably commodity / supply chain) TR3e property edition with profile blade was quoted as $5023 and TR3e-Equine $5756. Those are not cash prices. Makes it significantly harder to make the choice on the product, even when considering not purchasing a box blade.

I got mine in 2017, and yeah that is a lot. Unfortunately, I don't think prices will ever come down significantly, for anything.

Glad it is working well for you..
A number of years ago I researched the TR 3 attachment.. In many areas I'm sure it will do multiple tasks over and above arena grooming.. However here in the far north, it would not do well for things other than arena work.. Even back when I was looking, it seems it would be the price of multiple more versatile attachments..
Prices today would likely be shocking..

I've got one and am very pleased with it for gravel and finish dirt work. As others have said, it's not efficient to move a large amount of dirt any distance but my tractor can't do that anyway. When I try to fill a five foot box blade I get bogged down pretty quick.

They make several models and there are options for each. For guys asking about pricing it's really hard for anyone else to know what you need. Call and talk with ABI and they'll be honest with you and what you need. I talked with them a couple times and then found a nice used one that was pretty close to the recommendation for less than half the price of new. When they followed up I told them I bought a used one and the guy said great we'll be here if you need us but won't contact you and they haven't. I did have him run the serial number to get the year of manufacture since the seller wasn't sure and to let them know where that unit lives now. If I need anything they already know what model I have.
