I found a 72” Befco finish mower nearby for $450. I took a look at it and it seems to be in pretty good shape. I may need to shorten the pto shaft, but otherwise it ran well.
I’m just wondering if I should buy it. I believe the rule of thumb is 4-5hp per foot of implement. I really need finish mower and they’re asking $450, so I feel like it’s a really good deal. I just don’t want to waste my money on something.

I’m unsure if my 750 will be able to run it. I do have a front loader, that I can add weight to for some ballast. Looking to maintainabout 2 acres of lawn, it’s very flat with just a couple trees.

Thoughts?

Being a gear drive...getting it spinning should be fine.

I run the same size behind a 955 and can run the belly mower too

Its got 4 wheels correct?...if so you just need to tow it mostly.
One that only had rear wheels.....not as desireable.

Price is right...Check the spindles.
New thats probly just shy of 3k........theres money left if it doesn't fit your needs

Go for it. If it bogs in the tall stuff, just down shift a gear.

You will be lucky if it's still available at that price. You should jump on it!

I bought my 72" Agmate finish mower when I had a 2WD 855 with 19 PTO HP and it ran it fine. Still running the same mower behind my 4310.

yes get it.

I have a 60" finish mower I use behind a 750 and it handles it with no problems, I wouldn't hesitate to run a wider one.

Well, it mows really well!
After picking up a new pto shaft from Georgia Equipment, and filling it up with gear oil (it was bone dry, probably a leak somewhere) I finally got a chance to mow. I did have to switch which hole my stabilizer chain was connected to, to reduce the sway, but overall it went without incident. Except for huge piles of clippings, because it took so long to get all the parts in hand.
Be kind, this is my first time mowing with a pto finish mower. Heck this my first time mowing any yard, at all. We moved in here in December and before that lived in a townhome, where they mowed as part is the assessments. I’ve ran push mowers before, but mainly along the side of the roads throughout my Sportman’s Club.

Sorry in advance.

Cornhead grease in gearbox if 90 wt leaks out.

Raise it up at least an inch or more....You got it a touch low from what I see.

Yea I see that flat land...Wheretf is your ROPS..?

Not all of them had ROPS. I could see why his doesn't, if it didn't come with a loader.

I see the loader is aftermarket.

I'm not the rops police...Just was curious.

They had a program that helped pay for one...I think I read a few weeks back it may have ended.

Wouldn't hurt to look into it as they are spendy...or if your located right you may have a tractor wrecking yard nearby.

Jack the mower an inch and go back after it.

cut looks okay to me, just don't let it so high next time.

I think the ROPS program still exists but is out of money, second hand info so not sure on that.

I would only wait two or three days then go over all the mowed areas again before the clippings settle down and start smothering out good regrowth. Those clumps aren't good for your lawn. You might try slowing down your ground speed to give the spinning blades a better chance of chopping everything up at full PTO speed.

I feel bad that I didn't think to ask if it was side or rear discharge before suggesting you should buy it. I think you got a good enough price on it you could flip it and make a few bucks or maybe modify it if you have the skills and tools.

Rear discharge is the way to go on finish mowers. They will still leave clipping from high grass but it will be less concentrated.
