Yes. The entire system uses HyGard from the same sump in the transaxle.

 

Three questions: in explanation:
1. Does the hydraulic oil and the transmission use the same oil?

On the 3046R, yes.

2. If they are, I am assuming you only add Hyd. oil to the fill hole, centered above the top cylinder arm for both the transmission and the hydraulics. Is that correct? Fill hole arrowhead in the picture below.

Can someone please take a picture of the Site Glass for the Hyd. Oil. Far enough away that I can find where it is located. I do know what a Site Glass is and what it looks like. I read about people checking the site glass or adding dye so you can see it in the Site Glass. I can’t find anything anywhere in the operators manual that talks or shows a picture of a Site Glass.

Below is an example of a sight glass. They come in many shapes. Some are round like this one, others are long clear tubes.

However, the 3046R does not use a sight glass. It has a dip stick (A) located on the rear axle housing, below and to the left of the fill hole (D). Below is a picture from the 3046R Operator's Manual.

Ok great, that was what I was wondering. You answered both questions. I couldn’t find any site glass. Now I know there isn’t one. So now all I need to do is put the red dye in so I can see it on the dipstick. My eyes aren’t what they used to be and I’m starting to get Macular degeneration. Thanks for the response I’ll go out and put the dye in as soon as I can locate my large syringe so I can put it in without getting on anything else. 😄

The dye should help with the dip stick. It did with my 2720.

I think my old Ford 1910 had a sight glass but neither our Kubotas or our 3046R had/have one — just a dip stick. Oh yea — our 350B & JD450C dozers also had a sight glass.

 

Where did you guys get the red dye? I serviced my 1025 last weekend and when buying supplies at the dealer, the parts guy said JD didn’t make or sell it. I found some on scamazon but was hesitant to put foreign matter in my baby’s circulatory system. Tnx

Be careful with that red dye. Don't get it on anything! It stains everything. If you use a funnel to pour it in to the tractor, be prepared to toss the funnel in the trash. It's the only way I could see the level on my 2025R's dip stick.

 

Fresh crank oil or hydro oil is hard to see on a dip stick, I find if you wipe the dip stick off with a rag, slighly dampen the dipstick with saliva and reinsert to then check the level it will be much more obvious because water and oil don't mix. The amount of moisture is insignificant. Try it.

 

The other thing, if you have a sight glass, add slowly when it is getting close to full and you will see the oil come up. If you overfill you will be unable to see the level.

 

Here’s a tip I found out when I got some of the dye on my hands when opened the can to check it. I had read in the forum to wear Med. Gloves when using the dye because it stains the skin and takes a log time to wear off (of course I do didn’t). I thought ohhhh crap that’ll take forever to fade out. Put some fingernail polish remover or (100% acetone) and it wiped right off no problem. I have used 100% Acetone to clean off many different problem. Worked great on the dye.

Acetone sounds a little rough on skin including what may get absorbed. Reminds me of a Joe Jackson song, Everything - Gives You Cancer.
