Hello,

I'm in the market for a 12 vdc jump pack … big enough to start my pickup … don't need other "features" just start a weak battery …

What do you have/recommend?

Have this one and very happy with it. Leave it in my truck and stays fully charged for a long time. They have a size bigger now

Are these a plug into cigarette lighter, or wall outlet at home to charge them type of units?

How often would you need to "top them up" ?

Coal train, I'm not able to see the video ... I have not only a very limited data plan, but HORRIBLE signal at the time, where I've parked my semi-truck ... What is the cliff notes version of the video?

I go home every 3-4 weeks, and leave my pickup at the terminal, I got a a gasser ... 5.7L Hemi ...

If I'm at home I have power in both my garage & barn, and a battery charger, or my tractor, Z-turn, and pickup if one or the other has a battery problem ...

I'm single and closest relative is almost 1,000 miles away ... I'm kinda new to the area, moved from 1,200 miles away ... I have two GREAT neighbors, but hate to bother them for something like this ...

I have a NOCO, internet ratings are very high for them. Has it’s own case for storage
If you watch you can catch them on sale. Great unit

I now have the Clore JNC-770R 1700 peak amps. I had the smaller model the jnc660 for about 6 years then loaned it to my son to help one of his buddies out and they were driving the jumped car with it under the hood and it fell down and out on the street and was destoryed. I am very happy with the Clore products. I also know the NOCO line is a quailty product.

Here to add another vote for NOCO. I picked up a GB40 on sale a few years back. We have used it to start both vehicles and snowmobiles without issue. I generally recharge it in Oct-Nov off a wall charger and it will last the whole winter.

I have a Clore Automotive JNC660. It's what the pro's use and mine is 7 years old and still going strong.
Same here. I'm old school... battery in a box. My JNC660 is 7 years old as well and going strong. I realize the internal AGM battery is probably going to need replaced before too long.

Just note that some need to see some voltage to work and so won't start a complety dead battery. Some have a boost setting for that scenario.

I ended up buying a 1000 amp NOCO GB40 ...

Since my limited understanding of lithium batteries is they don't like the cold ... I will plan to pack it along with me when I head out in my semi-truck for a few weeks in the winters, that way when I come back, it's warm and fresh, yes, I have jumper cables, and could and have in the past on a different truck use them from my semi, to the pickup, but this is easier and faster ...

My current battery in the pickup has no date on it, and was in my used pickup when I bought in Oct '21 ...

Just yesterday my standby auto start whole house generator didn't start, due to GREAT NEIGHBORS, my neighbor got it jumped (new battery May '22!) But had a horrible time getting his 4X4 truck to it and worse getting back out ... So it will be handy just to have around ...

Project Farm showed in his video that the NOCO does pretty well in cold. I can also confirm this from personal experience. My GB70 was able to start my 7.4l chevy (gas) when the jump pack was left in the truck at 0F for more than a day.

I have been looking at them recently because I need a 12v outlet (cigarette lighter socket). My old one died recently, and it seems like none of the new ones have the outlet anymore, only USB ports for charging phones and such.

Anyone know why? Are they phasing out 12v sockets for some reason?

The Noco Boost GB70 I have has a 12v port that uses a cable that can be connected to a male or female 12 outlet (also supplied). It can be used to charge the unit or as a power source for other things.

I have a NOCO, it has been awesome. Used on my back up car a couple of times and have jumped a couple of folks at work. mine charges on USB so I keep it under the drivers seat plugged into a USB port that is off when the car is off on the rear of the center consol. I needed it once and it was kaput. now it stays topped up when I have the car running.

They do seem to be going away from the 12v cigarette style plug. I got a dog tracking collar as a gift. it came with a usb plug for charging from a vehicle. My truck still as a cigarette style plug, but just one. It also has multiple usb plugs and a 110 up front.

Not a mention of the infamous "Harbor Freight "brand. Purchased mine 20+ yrs ago, leave it continuously charging on my work bench. Have replaced the internal battery twice, they're available everywhere, a multi use battery for numerous applications....i.e. our home alarm system. HF has them on sale periodically, can buy a whole new jumper for a few dollars more then just the battery. I don't know what the advantage would be, the basic internals are the same.
