Progressing from a bagged riding mower to 1025 54in ride over deck

i liked the bagged mower because it bagged the cut

Obviosuly the new mower does not, if I “upgrade” to the mulch kit, is it worth it

Can you tell me the JD part # of your mulch kit? I have the same setup as you, 2018 2025r with a 60D drive over deck. The one the JD dealer sold me was not right (looked like for a 54).... and when I took it back, he could not come up with a part number for the 60D. So no mulch kit, and I want one. Thanks in advance.

Yes, the JD mulch kits are very good.

I will never own a mower without a Mulch Kit.
Installed a mulch kit on my last three ZT mowers and the riding lawn tractor before that.

Ditto on the mulch kit! Have been running it for almost 5 years now on my 1025r. If the grass is wet you may need to cut narrower swaths, but overall I am happy with the results.

Was not expecting such a resounding positive response

will now have to look into it in detail

@ejb69 i noted you said you used on leaves how deep of leaves and what are the results

the way my house sits and driveway it acts like a funnel and I get everyone’s leaves

Lawn was completely covered with leaves to the point you couldn’t see grass. When the leaves are coming down fast I will spot mulch every few days. I don’t waits until they are completely off.

U p at the cabin , which is in a heavily forested area, we don’t mulch. Just use a packpack blower to blow them back into the woods and away from the buildings.

Very happy with the mulch kit too. It works great on everything.

I see Deere has a couple of mulch kits available for the 54" decks. What is the correct part # for the 54D drive over deck?

I mulch leaves with mine and it works really well. The one bag thing is if the leaves are matted down or wet it won’t pick them up and mulch them. As a rule I think mulching blades are lower lift. I had a mulch kit on my previous Kubota BX. It worked good but would often leave this little windrow of cut grass. The JD doesn’t do that. They say to leave the deflector on the right side of the deck. I’m not sure why, it’s blocked off, I removed mine.

I have seen multiple part numbers for the 54 in mower deck, mine is a drive over with a load and go kit added to it

what mulch kit do I need or need to be looking at?

Put a mulch kit on my 60D and saved at least 1/3 of my mowing time and fuel by not having to worry which side I trimmed with around a multitude of trees, flower beds, rock gardens, etc. Fuel savings literally paid for the mulch kit in the first year! And I no longer leave windrows of dead grass all over the yard. Clumps when it gets long and wet sometimes, but not windrows. I didn't even put the mulching blades on yet as there are a lot of blade eating boulders buried in the yard (ex-pasture).

That p/n doesn't show a reference to the 2025R deck but does for the 2026R. Neither does the p/n I posted.

It's confusing because the SCUT decks were all redesigned sometime between 2018 and 2020.
