New Toolbox

I just got a toolbox for my 4720 today. It was kind of an impulse item. I got a CUT accessory brochure and a $20 coupon from Deere in the mail a couple of days ago. My dealer had the toolbox and bracket in stock. Kind of funny, 48 for the tool box, 54 for the bracket, then 20 off. Kind of pricey, but it's a Deere. Here are some pictures if you are curious how the bracket works. I didn't know the box was removable. It's also kind of nice how the tray can hang from the side of the box.
I might modify the holes a bit. The bracket sits a have inch or so off center. I might get used to it though.

Thanks for posting. I have been going back and forth on ordering the JD product or an aftermarket setup from Farm and Fleet. I have seen the Farm and Fleet one in the store, I haven't seen how the JD product looks or works other than JD's website. I think I will order the JD product now.

Nice setup.

But the thread hi-jack starts here. In the last picture the illusion of the square crosstube from the parking stand is that it is not fully seated on top of the weight bracket (per manual). Almost all of its width should be on the weight bracket. If not, the parking stand will flex at the 4 bolt mounting to the casting coming off the loader masts.

Here's a couple of pix from the manual and the link to the manual. Check with your dealer first to verify the positioning of this and the fix if needed

Top bar (A) of parking stand should rest on top of front weight bracket with at least 25 mm (1 in.) (E) of engagement (measured from rear of top bar.)

Thanks for posting, I don't mind the:hijacked:
After reading your post, I frantically ran to the barn to check the square bar stock (I don't think it is a tube). My toolbox pictures, thankfully, are an optical illusion.
The 1.5 inch bar sticks out past the weight bracket MAYBE 1/16 inch. So there is roughly 1.4375 inches of engagement with the weight bracket.

Was that a problem with some setups? Was there a fix? Maybe you should start another thread so others will see it.
Here is a side shot of my weight bracket:

Nice box, I bought the same box & bracket, it worked real well until I was loading one day and mashed the tool box all to hell, it is protected with the FEL down, but sticks out to far, (and you can't see it from the seat), when dumping over a fence, or the side of a trailer, now I need to get a new box, and I will try it mounted on the rear behind the seat, and see how long it lasts there. I really like the design of the box & tray, and the way it mounts to the bracket, I just have to learn everything the hard way.:banghead:

I wonder how hard it would be to modify this to mount to the back of a 1026R?

I don't know if the 3x20 have the same rear end like the 2x20. I made a rear tool box for my 2320 . It did cost me a plastic toolbox from Menards for $4.99 a can of paint and some old angle material and a little welding. It is not a big tool box, but it carries all the pins, gloves, etc. what one needs on the spot. I used existing holes in the back to attach the support of the box.

Yes, the box is far enough over to allow free movement of the third arm. In fact, if I can find a toolbox that is about two inches bigger in all three directions, I will install this, and I still should have enough room back there.

I got the idea from the 10 series tractors, and JD wants for that tool box (it is also plastic) big money, and the installing brackets are not as good as is my design.

If you mean my tool box, it is not from JD, it is home made. I just got the idea to do it like this after I looked at the one of the 10 series in the dealer show room. I just made my support brackets to fit the existing holes in the tractors rear end, and designed it in a way that it was hanging over to the side to not interfere with the center link. I have more step by step pictures if you would like me to psot them.

Nice toolbox! Not trying to make anyone feel bad here, but I was able to purchase the same toolbox and bracket for $25.00 from Worthington Ag parts. I found out that that toolbox has been around a long time and used on many different JD tractors. However, when I got the toolbox, it was rusty, had grind it down, repaint it and buy the bushings and bolts from tractor supply to mount it on the front of my 4520. Nonetheless, that is a heavy duty toolbox and worth the money!

I just bought my toolbox from Worthington's website, and I use the JD toolbox and bracket part numbers to see if they were available.

Worthington Ag Parts, Your global source for Farm Equipment Parts

I use part number AT22070 (toolbox) and T23033 (bracket), then mounted the bracket direct to the loader's standard (not deluxe) brush guard using bushing, bolts, nuts, washers and rubber washers I got from tractor supply. The toolbox is $25.00 and the bracket is $10.00. Be aware that you will have to refinish and re-paint those parts like I did.

I have a 2007 JD 990 w/300 loader, and has the metal fuel tank behind the seat. I've been wanting to add a toolbox too and thinking of this setup. Yea, I know, its not green, but can be. I plan to fab a metal bracket 5"x7"x16" and rivet/bolt that to the panel covering the tank, then bolt/rivet the box to that. I checked the visibility and this seems good, allowing good view of the implements being used. Clearance for the lift arms is also not an issue.

Comments or ideas welcome.

After some delays in receiving a new tool (Rivet Nut Tool) I mounted the toolbox yesterday. The metal cover that I attached my bracket to was pretty thin, so I chose to use Rivet Nuts to mount the bracket, using 1/4"-20 bolts so it could be removed easily if needed. It's not fancy but does what I needed, and still allows a good view of my implement.

The tool I purchased (see pic) is not expensive, but it is well made and came with 8 mandrel sizes and rivet nuts for each.

I wanted to follow up on my toolbox installation. After a few months of use, its going to require some modifications, maybe removal.

First, I underestimated just how much the box might weight with some basic tools in it. The mounting plate I fab'd for it, 10 ga I think, isn't really heavy enough either and its bending a little at the bend point. But the biggest issue is the mounting point on the tractor, which is really just a thin cover plate over the top of the fuel tank. I was concerned about it being too thin and it is, allowing the entire plate and box to lean downward. and there's not much of a place to shim it up without pressing on the fuel tank itself, which is steel, not plastic.

I'm not sure what to do here, but this setup is not going to last. I'm concerned that bouncing the tractor around may just result in it falling off. So, back to the drawing board. :(:(
