I bought a fairly old Yanmar 2 Cylinder diesel engine to tinker with. The engine has compression, I think it'll run. Looks only lightly used. It appears that it might have come from a commercial mower or an excavator. The only ID on it says that it is a 2y750-C engine. Yanmar doesn't make them anymore. It has a top mount radiator, which is missing but the bracket is there, and it has a vertical shaft. Other than the radiator it appears complete except for a few odds and ends. I'm looking for any info available on the engine (and a radiator in just about any condition. It is roughly 13 x 13) Thanks in advance.

I couldn’t tell you what the id on it was, but I bought a new 355D John Deere lawn mower in 2000 and it had a 2 cylinder liquid cooled Yanmar diesel on it with the radiator mounted on top like you described. It was a REALLY good little engine, and the reason I now have my 994r with the 3 cylinder Yanmar.
The size of the radiator sounds very much like what my 355D had. You might try doing a search on the 355D for the motor Id, but Deere also made a dozer with the 355D as the model just to warn you. They only made the lawn mower for 3-4 years so they are pretty scarce.

Thanks for your reply. I have been able to determine that the engine was used on all sorts of machinery including excavators, skidsteers , forklifts, mowers and so on. The one I got hardly looks used at all. It still has the original oil filter which looks unused. The problem is it's been replaced and isn't supported anymore. I'm going to followup on your 355D engine and see what shakes out.
