Removing the slop / play from the selective control valve lever

I seem to ask a lot of repair questions here, lol. I've got a 1997 JD 955. Engine and trans are great, but it's been ridden hard and put away wet many times. Lots of broken and/or worn out parts that are in need of replacement. There's way too much slop and/or play in the lever. I can move it side to side or front to back easily a couple of inches (at the lever tip, not at the base, of course) and need to know what are the best items in the setup to replace to remove the slop. Diagram below.

I'm thinking the yoke and/or the tie rod assembly (24A and 11) are likely culprits but connector pins, bolts, etc. are probably an issue as well. If you have a suggestion on which are most likely culprits, I'll order them and give it a go.

Thanks!

Hi,

I had the same problem and ended up replacing quite a few parts including the shift lever and yokes (3 and 11), etc. I actually took it apart to find out just what parts had wear or slop in them. That's really the only way to know. It wasn't real hard to get apart, was fairly accessible. I think I spent around $60 on parts.

Good luck.

Eric

I've done 3 & 11 twice now.

Also check the bolts and pins in all the linkages...you can gain a bit more there.

I think # 7 broke also in the last event which led to the new stick which I already knew I had in the spare parts box.

Thanks, guys. I assumed the "take apart and see" was going to be it. 3 has been replaced once in history already. My ranch is about an hour away so I have to go and get the trailer and bring it to my home or work on it at the ranch. Once it's apart, I don't like leaving it in the barn as I don't have a concrete floor to work on so I bring it to my city slicker location. I have to tie up one bay in my garage for a week or so to disassemble, diagnose, order parts, WAIT, then repair, lol. Wife gets on me about a tractor hanging out in garage for an extended period. I usually remind her I could go back to corvettes if she'd prefer. Generally that ends it.
