Ughh

So the backhoe and loader came attached to the tractor, I thought I would see if could move the rock shafts in anticipation of a 3 pt hitch.

FAILURE... if you are looking sideways at the tractor they are stuck upwards at about 1:00.. I should note first this has the power beyond setup by the rops. So far all I have done is remove the hydro hoses from the backhoe and looped the extra hose back into the PB setup. I have opened and closed the valve that controls fluid rate (the knob by the seat front). They won't budge up or down even a mil. This tractor was stored outside and I don't think these arms have been moved in a while. Also no noise at all coming from any where when the lever is moved up or down.

What am I missing... besides not knowing anything about what I'm Doing.

Thanks again

Attached about 1/2 way back on the 3-point arms are the stabilizers. On those stanilizers there are turn buckles. Try loosen them up quite a bit to see if that helps. Also won't hurt to hit all the moving (or supposed to move) joints in the hitch with some penetrating oil. Could be the balls at the inner side are rusted up from sitting outside.

Coa]ltrain,

Thanks for the reply.. there is no 3pt hitch on the tractor at all... just the 46 backhoe... but shouldn't i be able to move the rock shafts anyway?

I doubt they will move much if any without any weight on them. They go down by gravity only. So with the arms attached it gives it enough weight to drop.

Just my thinking - I've never had the 3-point hitch off my tractor so I could be wrong.

I agree. I've never had mind off either but I doubt they move that easily. My guess is the shafts are already rotated to the "UP" position and it is going to take a fair amount of rotational force to get them to move.

I assume you opened the drop-rate control knob all the way?

Just friendly advice... It would be helpful to other members and get you more pertinent assistance if you used a thread subject meaningful to the topic instead of your "second stupid question..." one.

your right question about three pt hitch not going down..

the exact question should be in the title... never occurred to me..

So i wont't figure this out until I go ahead and buy a three point hitch. Or I could try standing on them?

You could try standing on them. Just make sure the rate-of-drop valve is all the way open.

Now, I have to ask. If you don't have a 3-point hitch, what is the purpose of all this?

I've never seen my 2520 without the 3pt hitch arms on so I'm not sure exactly what remains when they are removed. I assume there are some stub arms there that the main hitch arms attach to, or else you wouldn't really know or care that the shaft was rotated. So, first question is: What is the impact of them being in the position they are? Are they interfering with the backhoe operation? If not, then ignore and move on. If so, is there a way to attach a bar, wrench, etc. on them to get some length/leverage on them to add torque and rotate them downward? Maybe you could attach a ratchet strap and use it to 'pull' them down to the position you want. Make sure the 3pt lever is in the lowest position when you try these ideas, obviously (or at least lower than the current raised position).

I purchased my 2320 with 50 hours on it and it was about 2 years old. The tractor was delivered to the original owner with the BH attached. Once I initially removed the BH the rock shaft arms were extremely difficult to lower. As already mentioned, they need weight on them to lower. Even with the BH on you may be able to push them down as Coaltrain suggested by pushing with your foot after adjusting the decent rate.

You mentioned that you removed the hoses on the PB outlet. Just an FYI that if you did not release the hose pressure before disconnecting (after turning the tractor off) you may have difficulty reconnecting them. You may need to manually relieve the hose pressure to reattach.
