I ordered a set of 2 link ladder tire chains from Tirechains.com for my 2038R with the 300/70r-20 turf radial tires. I attempted to install and found them to short to go completely around the tire. They are about 10-12 inches too short.

I sent some pictures to the company and have been told their customer service department is working the problem and hope to have an answer within a few days.

Has anyone installed chains on this tire and if so, which chains did you use?

I ordered some Aquiline MPC chains from TireChainsRequired that claimed to be for the 300/70R20 and had the opposite problem - they were too long. That was actually last year and I never got them on in time. This winter I finally started modifying them to fit and then got sidetracked with weather and holidays. I figured I'd make a post once I finished but after shortening and moving some of the cross links I think they're going to work really well. They are not as beefy as some chains, but I like the design and they weren't as expensive as some chains either.

Disclaimer: This is after shortening things but is not quite the way I ultimately decided to go with, and they are not fully mounted in this picture, just a quick test fit for eyeballing.

I can share more detail and some more pictures when I finally finish.

I got a message from Tirechains.com yesterday offering to either return the chains or get "extensions" to fill in the shortage. I suspect they are offering the necessary side chains with three or four cross chains to give me the necessary additional length. I haven't had the opportunity to speak with someone about a set that would give me the additional length. I am thinking that I might have to go with a set for a 24" rim. It might be too long but I guess I could take out some length.

I am not sure at this point which way to go. Getting the extensions would allow me to be up and running in a much shorter period of time vs. waiting for a different set to arrive. The company is located in Pennsylvania and I am in Minnesota. If I can speak to someone on Tuesday and we can agree on a set that is long enough then I am leaning on going toward a new set rather than trying to add the extensions.

So far I am pleased with the response from this company. They made no attempt to blame the customer for ordering the wrong set. Now, I assume they will pay for the shipping back.

It is hard to tell from the pics you posted but they look like they are to narrow. It appears that the cross links are to short and the side chains aren't extending down the sidewalls like they should. Normally chains ride with the side chain about 1/3rd to 1/2 way down the sidewall. The hooks that connect the cross links with the side chains should never make contact with the ground when in use.

JimR, I agree. The cross chains appear to be too narrow. Hence I think I will tell them I want a replacement set that fits the 370/70-20 tires. I will measure the tires, diameter and width, and see if they can come up with a chain that fits. Perhaps their chain manufacturer is unfamiliar with the design of the Galaxy turf radial. I wonder if the chains were more designed to fit a R4 industrial tire of the same size.

So will proceed on Tuesday to send the chains back. I hope to get a replacement set that fits quickly as a recent warm up in Minnesota has turned the driveway to ice. Rain/snow is in the forecast and I will need some traction assisting devices very soon.
