Been in the house 22years , we have geothermal heat and in floor heating. Replaced water heater(s) and storage tanks ( for in floor heat). about 8 yrs ago. We have 2 heat pumps, one replaced in 2023 , other in 2024. Split it up to spread out the cost. I asked my HVAC guy about replacing anodes in water heaters to lengthen the life span as the plumbing going into the tanks is pretty fancy and expensive since we take take extra heat from heat pumps to preheat the water prior to us using it. He said not many do it but it can't hurt. $40 on amazon for 2 new anodes and about 1/2 hour to replace both anodes. One anode was just a skinny rusty wire and the other was covered in a plastic coating and slime. Yuk. I do drain about 5 gallons from bottom of tanks yearly, might do it more often.
Had to use an impact wrench to loosen. saw that on YouTube. searched all over internet and couldn't find a torque spec. only thing I read was 'snug it up tight but not too tight'. I torqued to 50 ft pounds. I'll ck in a day or so and see if any leaks.
Hopefully this will give me some extra years.
