Who makes a decent quality (reliable) Come Along winch in the 4-ton range? Prices seem to vary wildly so I assume there are some pretty crappy ones out there.

I've got a JET JCP-4 / 180440 4 Ton come along that I keep in my trailer box along with some oblong ring slings, ratchet straps and tire changing equipment. Purchased about a year ago when I bought my new enclosed trailer. ~$80 if I recall.

Jet JCP-4

Was going to install a winch but it was a significant expense and then there's the battery maintenance. I've used it a few times to assist with loading some heavy skids along with my pallet jack. Mostly to get the loaded pallet jack up the ramp when I don't have any help around. It's slow but gets the job done.

I was going to buy a Lug-all but they're around $300. Nicely made in the USA (PA) but for the amount of use it gets the JET is fine.

not sure what it is rated, but I found one that fell off a Power Company truck, it has a nylon strap instead of a cable, best one I ever had... the stamped steel ones all feel kind of cheap to me, but seem to work okay..

John, are you interested in pulling or overhead hoisting? Some are designed for both applications. The less expensive units are intended for pulling only.

On one of those Alaska shows I saw one that uses Rope.

Rope just feeds through vs wrapping on a spool.

Got lots of chain ones...Heavy
Several cable types....spool will collapse on china versions...cable frays and developes memory...pigtails.
These rope ones I've not yet seen in a store....depending on your use of course...might be an option.

Is it a come along or a cumalong.
ive always said and spelt it the latter way. 😂🤔🤔
Hmm... I spell it the first way, say it the second way, and would rather just use a winch!

I guess kinda like a brush hog or a bush hog. I again say bush hog. But I’m a red neck from northeastern Oklahoma so ya know.
Same, most us red necks say bush hog down here too, because the durn thing says exactly that right on the side of it!

I had 4 on my bucket truck they were made by Chance if I remember right, one fell off my truck and followed me home. It's in the pole barn like I said I believe it's made by Chance.

Dang shame when stuff falls off a truck. Glad you were able to save it from just rusting out on the side of the road. . .

I think I have the morepower puller. But I’m not sure which brand it is, other than its red and made out of cast iron. It’s rated for 3ton. I have had since a broke a cheap one trying to pull out a stuck truck 30 years ago. I have used it to pull myself out many times over the years. I won’t go on the forest roads without it and 100’ of chain or straps. It’s all most always in my truck a long with a chain saw.

If you spend any time at all on the dirt forest roads in northern Wisconsin and the UP , you really should have some type of come a long, or winch and a saw in your vehicle.

Winch for the win!

I really abused the crap out of my Badlands winch on my last truck. Got it at Harbor Freight for like $350 I think. 12,000 lbs rated and I completely ignored the duty cycle on it but it never overheated on me once.

What killed it finally was going underwater too many times lol. I had that truck in water deep enough that it was coming in around the doors. Truck would start floating so open up a door and let the water in to weigh it back down. No problems besides having to frequently service the locking hubs and rear axle lube... and the winch died because water finally got into the solenoid box and shorted something out. The "in" and "out" contactors closed together and fried the motor.

I've used one of these Lug-All for decades. Rarely use the snatch block, mostly just single cable, pulling vehicles up on the car hauler. This is about the perfect size for most things I need it for. 30 foot long 1500# in single cable or 15' long and 3000# using the snatch block. Not even comparable to one of those cheap stamped come-alongs.

As I get older it began to require more breaks to get a dead car winched on, sprang for a 12k winch a couple years ago so the lug all spends a bit more time hanging on the wall, still super handy at times.
