Gentlemen,
I bought some John Deere Graphite spray upon recommendation of the parts guy.

https://jdparts.deere.com/partsmkt/document/english/pmac/6454_fb_GraphiteLubricants.htm

Has anyone used this? It was $7/ rattle can. What are the pros and cons of spraying this all over the bottom of my 60" deck? Please compare it to other deck treatments if you can. I'm interested in rust prevention and grass not collecting in the deck. Also, for informational purposes I have painted the bottom of my deck JD green, 2 coats.

Anyone use it on a snowblower?

Thanks!

I tried it on the under side of my mower decks. It wears off quick where the clippings hit the deck and you loose the supposed slipperiness of the graphite. Wet damp grass like grass with early morning dew still sticks to the graphite paint. The end result was it was a LOT of work scrapping the decks, then wire brushing them to prep for paint, then have the paint do little if any good. I've heard of people using a shiny slick smooth surface pickup bed liner material, but haven't tried it myself. I think it may offer the rust protection your looking for. But wet grass will still stick to it.

I have heard that it actually works O-K on rusty snow blowers/throwers that haven't been used in several years. Painting the inner discharge areas allows them to blow snow farther and not work the engine as hard. Plus the snow normally does not wear the paint off as fast.

I kind of thought that it was snake oil. My deck was new this year. When I pressure washed it before winter storage I was surprised at how little paint there was on the bottom of the deck. :unknown: My experience has been that decks eventually rust out and bearings go out. I'm just trying to start the best preventative maintenance ritual that I can as I plan to have this tractor for a long time.

Does anyone wax any of their implements? Would wax help the snowblower collect less snow? Grass clippings slide off easier?

Best way to make sure your mower deck runs trouble-free and doesn't rust is to NEVER pressure wash it again. The 2500-3000+ psi water gets into places that are not dirty and where it should not be. Water can get to places where your deck has no paint and start rusting it. Your deck was painted after assembly. A pressure washer can force water past oil & grease seals into bearings. The ONLY time I wash with water is just before doing major disassembly work for repair. Then I'll use a garden hose & nozzle after spraying with Gunk degreaser.

Grass is super abrasive, especially if you have sandy soil. I don't and it still wears away. I've tried the graphite paint. Don't waste your time relying on it to keep your mower deck clean.

Here's my 62D from the factory.

Here it is painted.

Lastly, here it is with graphite paint.

It sure made it slick, but it was worn off in a few mowings.

I've had a Ford with 48" deck for 15 years, 425 JD with 60" deck for 13 years, 2210 JD with 62" deck for 10 years. I always clean the under side of the deck by scraping it with a putty knife or whatever works and although there is some surface rust which gets taken care of on the next mowing, I have never had a rust problem. Not saying I won't with the 1026 with the 60" I have now but so far it's just the usual wear. I usually clean my deck 3-4 times a year. I probably will clean this new drive over deck more often as it's so easy to get off and on. Other then that I don't worry about it.

Have used TSC graphite brush on seemed to work OK , still would wear off before the end of the mowing season.
My FIL has been using Dupli-color Truck bed coating the last couple of years, says it works better than the TSC graphite paint.
