Why not to buy low cost attachments from ebay

So I bought these before I did research on this website. I should have bought from a site supporter. Live and learn the hard way should be my motto.

Attachments

I was just about to reply with a similar response, I'm not really sure what I am looking at or where the perceived problem is - other than what appears to be a loader upper quick attach mount with excessive clearance. What is the attachment? Who is it from?

What is it? Who made it? Most importantly did you contact the manufacturer and are they resolving the problem?

The title should be changed on this thread. The word "eBay" for "Titan."

I don't speak for all if GTT, but I don't believe it's a "bash Titan at all costs" here. If you are happy with your purchases, that's all that matters. :good2:

As previously posted it is a pallet fork for a JD global loader 553. Sorry I did not get to finish my thought when originally posting due to an interruption at work. The company selling this wants me to get a quote from a fabricator to add so shims to take up the extra space and if it is reasonable they would send me the cost to add the shims. The extra space is an issue but what I am hacked off about is that the lower pin will not automatically slide into place as it is designed to. So now I have to get off the tractor an extra time when I swap out attachments. I would have paid the difference in price from this pallet fork to a set that works properly just for the convenience of not getting out of the seat a second time. Not sure how I am going to handle this. I will need to haul my tractor to a fabricator to do this. The fuel and time to do that is another expense for me to fix their poor quality control issue. I am tempted to wedge these into my Honda civic, drive to Tn and throw the forks through their window.

Will they refund your money if you ship it back?

While Titan does occasionally produce a product that works, their track record and response to customer issues speaks volumes for whatever company they're known as this week. (skidsteer express, atv express, palletforks, com, etc...)

I don't speak for all of GTT or TBN, but there seems to be a disproportionate number of really poor craftsmanship issues related to Titan. We don't hear those about other manufacturers. No one is out to get them, but the proof is seeming to be getting harder and harder to ignore. That, combined with some rather shrewd marketing attempts in the past makes me say:

RED FLAG!!!!

It's a shame that this company has treated you like this over what I assume to be a somewhat substantial purchase -- it's not like you bought a hat or something from them!

We are in the process of expanding our Tractor Attachment line-up to carry more brands and as we've been discovering and contacting new manufacturers and distributors out there, we always seem to come across a company like this that has a less than stellar reputation. As you can imagine, the last thing we want as a dealer is to send equipment like this to a customer and not be able to stand behind it!

We really hope they can make this right for you!

sorry to see that. Took me 2 looks to figure out what it was.
Hope they make it right for you. Maybe tell them you'll agree to have have local fab shop correct it but you'll need compensated for the work as well as the transport costs. Be reasonable of course, if you want any chance for this to work out ok for you.
I'd save tossing thru their window for last resort. But I get that instinctive reaction. Best of luck getting it resolved.

I know from experience that conversations like this one don't bode well for a companies future. These forums have pull, and this isn't the kind of pull I'd be wanting if I was Mr. Titan.

Tell the Company, when you are done, you plan to make, advertise and sell these shims along with pictures and installation documents on ebay.

yep, shim looks good, I have the same ? Did you do that?.
If so, maybe you should have just built that unit yourself. Nice looking fix either way.
Possibly be reimbursed?!!!
Think I'd make a stink till I was reimbursed and if they won't ,simply say ok,hope its worth it to them and counter offer to spend lots of free time on every tractor forum you could find with this story and pics on a regular basis.
Hope they make it right for you. It would not only be the right thing to do, it'd actually be easier for all involved.

Not to pick on the OP, but there are lots and lots of negative reviews of Titan already online. Lots of fit and weld quality issues and this particular one is relatively minor compared to some. They keep on though, and change their company name when folks start to catch on.

So they didn't even send you the shims? Obviously they have had this problem before or they wouldn't have pics of someone else's forks. I think I'd air mail them thru their front window too....

Good luck man, if you're anywhere near Iowa I'd help ya out myself.

I just purchased a grapple. I purposely did not purchase one of THOSE kind of grapple based on what I have learned here and TBN. I spent a wee bit more and hopefully got a quality attachment that fits my machine. In this case I would just build that up with some weld and call it a lesson learned. I would try to milk them for a couple hundred as well.

VISA disputes

Be sure to read all of your credit card agreements and requirements on your contract. Some agreements do not allow disputes outside of a certain mileage radius or out of state. Didn't used to be that way, but that's why the print gets smaller and smaller.

Reason to go with a big bank card. Visa or MasterCard will usually get your back though.

FWIW that shim could b made in several ways. Probably more that I am not thinking of at this time.

The easiest is to set it up in a cnc milling machine with about a 1/4" thicker peice of stock. Machine the 2 radiuses. Then flip the part over and deck off the back side.

Another way would be a bit more time consuming, but able to be done manually. You would need to weld a peice of steel for the shim onto a preferably square slave part. Get that slave square dialed up in a four jaw lathe chuck. Cut the one radius, then offset the part to cut the second radius. These could then be parted off of the slave block.

On the same mill line you could cut the radiuses in a standard mill if you have a compound rotary table, or a standard rotary table and set it up twice. Once on center, and another time offset.

Notice I did not say option 2 or 3 would be quick or easy.

We have cut similar parts at work, but I think they have all been done in the cnc mill. We have cut several ecentric shafts with the 4 jaw chuck method. It is not a lot of fun:thumbsdown:

Just to let you guys know how this ended up with Titan. I decided that I was not going to make the shim that they recommended. I called and told them that I spent $600 and I am not going to pay a fabricator so they should rectify the situation. So we agreed that the forks were fine but the mounting plate was a lost cause so Titan shipped another mounting plate for the JD global loader. It still did not fit correctly but was much closer than the first mounting plate. So I figured out that by grinding on the lower side of the lower mount point gusset and slightly elongating the lower mount point holes that it could work. I did this and it does work. Probably took me about an hour or so but now I have a usable set of pallet forks for my 553 global loader. So here is my thoughts on Titan: They were very polite on the phone as I discussed the problem but basically I had to tell them what I wanted them to do as far as rectifying the problem. I believe Titan has some quality control issues and it seems they are not interested in improving their quality. I would not buy from them again unless they product was on my tractor and functioning properly before paying for it. I also believe that part of the issue is the rarity of the JD global loader. It is just very uncommon and any attachments must fit perfectly or it is a no go.

Thanks for the follow up Footy. I will just add that their (Titan) QC problems are not just with the global carrier, but with the SSQA as well and it's the most common around-there are plenty of threads on other forums about that.
Telling customers it's up to them to make an attachment fit is not good business model by any means, but there are many supporters of them based solely on the price and price alone.
