This morning was cold enough to make this idea of a cold start video a little more worth while. It was minus 21 C which is a little below zero F but "warmed up" to minus 15 C. I plugged in the tractor for about 1-1/2 hour and she fired up nicely. I finally figured out how to do the video thing so here is a clip of the tractor starting up at minus 15 C. I let her idle until the white smoke stops then I bump her up to about 2,000 rpm to warm up for about 10 minutes before moving her.

Not a bad idea. I'll try to do that tomorrow when I get back home to the cold unless someone else throws one up here before then. I've been in sunny San Antonio for the last week :). I have to go bad to the cold tomorrow :(.

Well, I got back to the land of the cold today but it has warmed up to plus 6 Celcius, not cold enough to do the video to demonstrate a cold start. And we only got 2 inches of snow, not enough to go play in, :( .

That would shut this place down...:lol::lol:

What is the best way to attach a video to a thread? The videos I shot are very large in memory for just a two minute clip, too big to think about uploading. Any ideas??

I know there are other ways of doing it,but you could go through the process of joining YouTube.

I think it's the easiest. YouTube makes it pretty painless. It does all the work and it's simple to use.:good2:

You cannot "attach" or "upload" a video to the forum. You must use a place like YouTube or PhotoBucket, then you can link to or "embed" it here using the Insert Video button.

Here is an update on cold starting my 1023.

Saturday night I took the tractor to my In-Laws so we could fit the hooks and pins on the root rake we were building for it. I parked it outside the garage because there was a vehicle parked in the work space.

Sunday Morning it was -9 F (not sure of the wind chill) and I went over and tried to start it. It did not start for me the first or second time. The the third time I cycled the glow plugs 3 times and it wanted to start, but the battery was too weak (or didnt have enough cold cranking amps) at that point. We had to put the charger on it for a few minutes, cycled the glow plugs again it started up.

I am able to store my 3005 in a garage that doesn't get below 35F even when it's -10F outside. With that said I haven't looked into a block heater. Anyone know what temp they heat to? If it's much over 40-50F I might reconsider.

Thanks,
Jim
