I bought all my filters already. I can’t remember what I paid, but it was not $141. I bought all three, two were cheap and one was expensive. Bought all three for a little over 100 bucks. I’m up to speed on my oil and hydraulic oil scheduled changes, but I’m not sure when to change the fuel filters. Is there an early break in change for fuel filters?

Do you have the John Deere part # for the spin on final fuel filter? My dealer could only come up with the number for the filter kit at 141$ which I will not pay out of principle.

The book says fuel filters yearly, so I did my oil, air filter(600 hours seems too long to me on an air filter) and fuel filters minus the 141$ one yesterday, 95 hours and I have had it for 11 months, seemed close enough for me.

Please let us know what you find out about the mysterious "Final Filter". If it is a "kit" JD is being very secretive about the contents of said "kit". Here is the detail from JD Parts on the "kit".

Oddly, my local dealer does not stock this part at any of their 5 locations which is very strange for a filter which is to be changed yearly.

An on-line search on this part number turned up ZERO details.

You will also note that there is no mention of this filter on the JD 2038R maintenance sheet. I think JD should dump whoever it is they hired to write the documentation on the new 2-series and go back to whoever they were using for the previous models. Sure, the manuals have always had some confusion factor but it is nothing like we are seeing across the board on the new 2-series.

I cross referenced the yanmar filter # and found an exact replacement for 51$ and wix has one that matches for 27$ but the dimensions are not the same it is longer and that won’t work for me due to the diverter for the front 3 point hitch would interfere with a 1.5” longer filter. I’ll do some more research it’s insane to pay that much for a standard fuel filter, I had it off doesn’t look like anything special. :dunno:

Will the $51 dollar match fit? What’s the description?

Personally, I'd eliminate that thing. Overkill in my mind, let alone a really crappy location. Kingnuke, if you "woods" your machine that thing is just begging to get dented up or worse ripped off. Unbelievable, to think that's the best location they could come up with!:unknown:

129a23-55800 Is the number on the filter which matches a Yanmar # I found online. Should be identical.

Knowing the part number I was able to find it in the 2038R parts listing. The filters are listed under the ENGINE section, sub-section FUEL LINE.

With virtually ALL other tractors the fuel filters are listed under the main section of FUEL and AIR. With the new 2-series JD only listed two of the three fuel filters here. I will say again, JD needs to go back and straighten out the documentation on the new 2-series and dump whoever was responsible for organizing the manuals.

I was going to let the 2R series guys know that my dealership offered me a kit that has everything in it. Hydraulic, oil, and fuel filters. I already had most of what I needed so I didn’t get it. I agree, the manuals on these tractors are a mess. I would be embarrassed if I where JD, such nice tractors to release the manuals in this condition.

Since we now know that the High Efficiency filter is not a "kit". It would be nice to know exactly what items are included in Filter Kit MIA884405.

That makes sense then that this extra special 51$ filter matches with yanmars cost, wix has an alternative for hAlf that price for anyone without the front 3pt hitch hydro valve there.

I have to say that I have figured out that my dealship’s service guys are pretty good. They have had the answers to a lot of problems other dealerships have caused with these new 2R tractors. I have a question, guys. What hour mark are you guys changing fuel filters?

The service interval is 400 hours. A lot of 400 hour service interval items also include the text "or annually", I figure I'll follow the 400 hour or 1 year whichever comes first.

Unless theres a problem,changing fuel filters at 100 hrs is kind of a waste in my opinion! Hope you enjoy your 2038!!

It's never a bad idea to do it annually, or if you purchased the tractor used.
